With every new Generation of Heroes added to your State in Whiteout Survival, the choice about which ones to develop gets more and more complicated. This is especially the case for F2P players, who will simply never have the resources to get the most out of many of those that are available. Despite Mythical Heroes typically being the best, as a F2P player these may not always be the best option, with a fully developed Epic Hero outmatching a partially developed Mythical Hero. In this Whiteout Survival Guide, we dive into this idea in more detail, presenting the Best Heroes for F2P Players that you should focus on as soon as you get them.

F2P Hero Considerations
As a F2P player in Whiteout Survival, it is possible to get almost all the Heroes in the game completely for free via Events, Intel, the Luck Wheel, etc. However, this does not mean that you should actually do this. For the more premium Heroes in the game, although you can unlock them, it is very hard to get enough of their shards to upgrade them to a useful state. Indeed, a 4 Star Epic Hero will always be better than a 1 Star Mythic Hero. In addition to this, there are a few other things to realize before we get into the list of the Best Whiteout Survival Heroes for F2P Players:
- You will not be a rally leader – this is the first thing you need to realize, as a F2P player, that should be in a top alliance, as mentioned in our Tips for Beginners, you will never be a rally leader. This role is reserved for the players who are spending money simply because they will have better accounts and will be able to lead rallies that do much more damage. As such, any Heroes that excel in this role should not be focused on and instead, you will be looking for Heroes that are great for joining rallies. This will be a Hero that has a first Expedition Skill which buffs the troops for an entire rally, for example, Jessie.
- Resource bottlenecks – another important factor to consider is resource bottlenecks which will be focused on Mythic Heroes. Basically, as a F2P player in Whiteout Survival, you will never have enough Mythic Shards or Skill Manuals to focus on more than 2 or 3 Mythic Heroes. Therefore, you need to pick just a few that you like and stick to them.
- Lucky Wheel – lastly, this is another point that will refine your Hero choice even more. Typically, as a F2P player, you must rely on the Lucky Wheel to unlock Mythic Heroes. Unfortunately, they do not all appear here, with only one from each Generation being available such as Zinman in Generation 1. As mentioned in our Whiteout Survival Gem Spending Guide, it is a good idea to focus on each generation’s Lucky Wheel Hero, as this guarantees you can get a Mythic Hero to 4 Stars if you max out your spins.
List of Best F2P Heroes
Now, let’s get stuck into our list of all the Best Heroes for F2P Players in Whiteout Survival that can all be obtained completely for free. Do keep in mind the things highlighted in the previous section as this will help your understanding of why these Heroes are recommended.
Jessie
Jessie is an Epic Lancer Hero who has Exploration and Expedition Skills that excel in combat. As a F2P player, he will be your lead rally joiner for attacks due to his first Expedition Skill, Stand of Arms, which buffs the damage dealt by all troops. As an Epic Hero, it is super easy to get ahold of his shards for upgrading. In particular, you will find a lot of these when completing Intel Missions. In the early game, she is also useful in Exploration with her first skill, Burst Fire, dealing AoE damage to a large number of enemies.
Sergey
Another Epic Hero who is a great choice for F2P players is Sergey. He is an Infantry Combat Hero who you will send out to help in defense such as of Fortresses your alliance is trying to capture. This is driven by his first Expedition Skill, Defenders Edge, which reduces the damage taken by all troops by 20% when upgraded to its maximum level. He also works well in your front line during Exploration with his skills helping him and his troops soak up damage. Sergey Shards can be found in Intel Missions and during Exploration.
Patrick
Patrick is an Epic Lancer Combat Hero who will do an excellent job for you in your backline during Exploration and Arena battles. The MVP of his kit is his first Exploration Skill, BBQ Feast which sees him healing all troops by 280%*Attack when upgraded to its maximum and also increasing their attack by 7%. His other two Exploration Skills, Thick Belly and Emergency Snack, help keep him alive and you’ll need to work on this too to ensure he stays alive and keeps getting his team heals out.
For this same reason, try to keep him in your backline so he is not picked off early in the battle. He can also be useful as a rally joiner in defense of objectives due to his first Expedition Skill, Super Nutrients, which increases the health of all troops by 25% at its maximum.
Gina
Gina is an Epic Combat Marksman Hero who, while not excelling at damage in Expeditions, is a must-have Hero for attacking Beasts and other monsters on the state map. This is primarily due to her Expedition Skill, Endurance Training, which reduces the stamina cost of this activity by up to 20%. In addition, her second Expedition Skill, Quick Paced, increases Wilderness March Speed by up to 100% for super quick and stamina-efficient hunting. You can rack up her shards quickly via the Gina’s Revenge event and she can also be used in the backline of your Exploration Squad to deal high damage to enemies.
Jasser
Like Jessie, Jasser is another Epic who can be used as your lead Hero when joining rallies for an attack. His first Expedition Skill, Tactical Genius, adds 25% to the damage dealt by all ally troops when upgraded to its maximum level. Over time it is also useful to upgrade his second Expedition Skill, Enlightened Warfare, which increases Research Speed but Tactical Genius should be the priority. You will get enough Research Speed buffs in the early game from your Research Center building.
In Exploration and Arena, he can be used in your backline, and, as a Marksman Hero, he will sit back and snipe off enemies with huge damage from his Exploration Skills. It is a little harder to get shards for Jasser, they are only available via Hero Recruitment, than it is for the other Epics in this list of the Best Heroes for F2P Players in Whiteout Survival and you should therefore save your Epic General Hero Shards for use on him.
Zinman
Zinman is a Mythic Marksman Growth Hero and is the first Hero to appear on the Lucky Wheel. Whilst he is quickly outmatched by future Generations of Heroes, in terms of his usefulness in Explorations and Expeditions, he is still worth picking up. This is due to his second Expedition Skill, Bastionist, which reduces building times and costs. However, as a F2P player we only really recommend using the Lucky Wheel to get him up to 3 stars and stopping there. In this early stage, it is better to focus your Gems on VIP instead of getting him to 4 stars.
Flint
In Generation 2, Flint will be the available Lucky Wheel Hero who will quickly become your lead Hero when rallying Polar Terrors. He is also good for joining rallies but it should be noted that his first Expedition Skill, does contain RNG, leading many to prefer to stick with Jasser and Jessie as their preferred lead joiners.
In particular, when Flint is present in a rally, all friendly troops have a 20% chance of igniting their target, causing it to suffer 40% damage per turn for 3 turns. This gives a pretty similar expected damage output to that of Jessie, however, as a Mythic, Flint’s overall stats are better. In Exploration and Arena, Flint acts somewhat like a Support Hero, with Exploration Skills that increase the damage taken by his target and increase the attack speed of all friendly Heroes.
Mia
In Generation 3, Mia will appear as the next Rally Wheel Hero available. She is a Mythic Lancer Combat Hero who has a great kit for Exploration and Arena. Her entire Exploration kit is pure RNG which cannot always go your way. However, if it does go your way, then Mia is easily capable of blowing away teams that are of a much higher power. She is also able to heal her team with her third Exploration Skill, Guardian of Destiny, making her a potential upgrade on Patrick.
Generation 4+
Going into the next Generations, you should continue to focus on the Rally Wheel Heroes though you may decide to become a bit more selective, realizing that you don’t have enough Skill Manuals to max those you already have. As a general rule of thumb, each new generation of Mythic Heroes is an upgrade on the previous.
It is also worth mentioning here that it can be a good strategy to save ALL of the General Mythic Hero Shards you accumulate in the early game. If you save up enough, you could use them to 4 Star a Mythic Hero who is not available on the Lucky Wheel and therefore not typically seen as F2P friendly. Some of the top Heroes to consider for this are Sonya who will become available from Hero Rally, Daily Deals, King of Icefield, and SvS once you are in Generation 8.
Rare Heroes
One glaring omission so far in this list of the Best Heroes for F2P Players in Whiteout Survival is that of Rare Heroes. Whilst these will not really form any part of your rallying outside the very immediate early game they still do have some use and there is zero downside to upgrading them all. Indeed, they each have Expedition Skills that will help you with your resource gathering and production.
